Why Spur of the Moment Adventures are better than Planned Ones

Almost a year ago, a friend of mine and I made plans to spend a summer getaway trip to Dipolog. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, it didn't happen. By the time she came back to Dumaguete, we planned on going to the beach in Dauin. Hours before we met, we decided to call it quits and have a pizza date instead.

Not all hope was lost for the summer. Even when we cancelled two plans, we still had room for one more. We decided to go on an adventure to Osmena Peak and include a side trip to Dalaguete Beach Park afterwards. By the time we went our separate ways, we made a pact to sleep early and wake up early for tomorrow's voyage.

We left Sibulan port by 8 then reached Liloan port at around 9. It took us roughly an hour to get to the first bus stop at Dalaguete, which is where our journey begins. To take us to the start of our hike, we took a habal2 ride from the junction all the way to baranggay Mantalongon. It was a 15 to 20 minute ride of pure adrenaline as the roads we traversed were long and had many twists and turns (not to mention the speed manong driver was driving in). Amidst the imminent danger we were in, it somehow gave me a sense of calm and purpose. Knowing I was in the presence of Mother Nature all around made me feel protected and safe.

After the blissful habal2 ride, we finally reached the starting point of our hike. There weren't that much people around but there were locals surrounding the area. We opted not to have a guide as the trail was pretty simple, yet it wouldn't hurt to provide the locals a source of income.

And so the climb begins.

The journey to Cebu's highest peak was not that long compared to my previous hike in Puncak Tanawan. We stopped for a break twice while sitting on sharp rocks sipping on jellyace under the heat of the sun. Even though the trail was rather steep and rocky, we utilized the power of Disney songs to pump us up. (Moana's "How Far I'll Go" was a favorite)

It didn't take us long to reach the peak as it was a pretty short trail. Once we were at the summit, we were partly bummed that it was cloudy and foggy. (Weather forecast: isolated rainstorms in Central Visayas due to the presence of a low pressure area nearby). Still, we enjoyed our stay and took some buwis buhay shots.

There were also other spots perfect for photo opportunities aside from the peak.

I'm a nature and chill kind of girl

Before 12 o'clock, we made our descent from the mountain. From there, we rode along towards our next destination - Dalaguete Beach Park. It took us a soothing (albeit hot) 30 minute roadtrip via habal2 to get there. Once we were there, we were fortunate enough to have the place to ourselves; one of the perks of traveling on a weekday.

Since service was unavailable, we had lunch at a nearby carinderia. As the whole resort was bare, we had the luxury of enjoying our privacy. Here we basked ourselves in the warm glow of the sun and went about as we pleased.

We chilled the rest of the afternoon away. Our time left we spent catching up with each other's lives was rejuvenating. It made me realize that things that go unplanned lead to the most remarkable experiences. Despite the weather forecast and my parents' disapproval of this trip, it turned out to be pretty awesome.

Needless to say, this adventure was definitely one for the books.

Credits to my long time partner in crime, Lea Zamora for letting me use her pictures and for getting me out of my bitchcave every once in a while  :)
